  1. Ambrose Memorial Lecture: O. Alan Weltzien, Ph.D. on Montana Novelist Thomas Savage

    This year's lecture is "Thomas Savage: A First-Rate, if Neglected, Montana Novelist and Dillon's Best Historian," presented by O. Alan Weltzien, Ph.D., a Professor of English at The University of Montana-Western. Weltzien has published dozens of articles and has authored, edited, or co-edited eight books, including two books of poetry. His newest book, "Exceptional Mountains: A Cultural History of the Pacific Northwest Volcanoes," is forthcoming from the University of Nebraska Press (2016). He is at work, with three co-editors, on a new, interdisciplinary collection called "Thinking Continental: Surveying, Exploring, and Inhabiting Macro Space." Weltzien has long been a champion of novelist Thomas Savage (1915-2003) who is best known for his Western novels. Savage's novels drew on early experiences in the American West and southwest Montana (The Pass, Lona Hanson, The Corner of Rife and Pacific).
